The author insists that the Jewish background of Christianity has too often been overlooked and that, consequently, we miss out on the richness of allusions. Now that narrative theology is in fashion and we are becoming disillusioned with reductionism and scientism, we do well to remythologise. Jungian archetypes speak to our interior life and the mythology contained, in scripture should nourish our spirituality. In the past, the discovery that many myths in the Judeao-Christian tradition were paralleled in other cultures was a shock. Now we can see it as a benefit, in that revelation is at work throughout time and space, speaking to all sorts and conditions of people where they are. Fawcett traces, in great detail, themes such as: old and new creation, wine, garments, sabbath, old and new Adam, son of man, light and darkness, bridegroom, baptism, water, desert, dragons, serpents, lions, storms, fish, dove, nativity stories, the logos, Jerusalem, holy mountains, ascensions and assumptions, tombs and wombs, binding devils, rock, blood and water, oil and wine, honey, kingship, gardens, trees, mustard seeds, banquets.
